Party Planning : 3 months to go.

I... am in a SLIIIIIIIIGHT panic - because I just realized that my baby is going to be 2 in three short months. and then after calming down from that, I'm thrown into another panic when thinking about her party last year, and prep time, and i haven't even thought about her party this year, and where will we have it, and who should we invite, because we have a million family members who want to come, and last year there were like 50 people there and it was a lot of work and overwhelming, and should there be friends at this party? and does she even have any friends and is my kid an anti-social freak like her mother? and OOOOHMYGOSH!

Party Planning throws me into a straight up frenzy.. anyone else?
I've just decided to start where I usually start.. Pinterest.

If you guys have any pin boards dedicated to toddler party planning, leave them in the comments section! I'm desperate for inspiration!

"If joy were a color, it would be purple pastel pretty."

It order to show off Jordyn's mad hair stylin' skills, we came together at the begnning of February and decided to collaborate, and bring you into the middle of it. Jordyn was to do my hair, and YOU GUYS were to decide the color. After weeks of agonizing back and forth on the poll, you all voted "LAVENDER!".  SO fun! During the poll I got a lot of comments that said things like "you're braver than me!" "So fun, but I could never do lavender!". So we decided that we'd take it slow, It's a process, anyway, getting your hair to go from as dark as my natural color is, to as blonde as we needed it to take the lavender well. We really wanted to show you guys how NOT scary this is, and how you can play with fun colors in a totally subtle way. We WILL be adding more lavender in the future, just for fun's sake- but we thought it was important to show this side of crazy colors as well.
Here's a little photo of the before and after:
Jordyn did AMAZING. Especially with getting my hair to go from dark brown to light blonde in this short period of time without frying it right off. I've done a home job bleach before when I was way younger and it did NOT turn out this way. I was so impressed, and I really respect her as a hairstylist for knowing how far to stretch it in one sitting without really screwing my hair up. I just can't get over over how soft and shiny my hair is after all that bleach! She really did amazing.
If any of you locals are looking for a great hairdresser, I would highly recommend Jordyn. She's totally professional, sweet, and one of the most stylish ladies I know. She's also giving any of my readers 15% off of their first session with her. That's an awesome deal! We're working on a business facebook page for her, but until then you can find her here:

So what do you say, readers?
Color can be totally NOT scary

but now.. how about a little more purple? yeah?

Weekly Wishes || 5

I can't believe I've already been part of this linkup for 5 weeks! Time sure flies when you have enough blog content to schedule posts. <3 I'm LOVIN it.
So, my weekly wishes for last week looked a little like this:

- get rolling with this new book I started
- make a garland -done
- Make something for the Collective Creative challenge - done
- get my hurr did (yep I said it) -done .. sorta
- do something nice for my husband for no reason at all
- make 4 more dreamcatchers for "the big order"
- make new dreamcatchers with leftover supplies
- come up with a custom design for a potential order -done
**BONUS** Be part of a photo shoot for Love Well Handmade's spring line! -doooooone!

I did a lot of failing at this list this week. Where did all of the time go?? I didn't read a page of that book, didn't do anything especially "nice" for my husband (bad wife award goes to... ) and I didn't get any of the dreamcatchers done, because I ran out of my twine, which I won't have restocked until tomorrow. BOO. big time. - and on the husband subject.. it's not like I wasn't nice to him- just to clarify- but I kind of had something in mind I wanted to get for him and then we ran out of "spending money", and then I just couldn't think of anything that didn't cost money. Is that horrible? It FEELS horrible. Surely there's something on pinterest for that kind of thing. I'm going right now to search "nice things to do for your husband".

But enough about the failures...
Here's what I DID do.

+Love Well Handmade asked Fern to be part of their photo shoot for their spring line (launching in a short 3 weeks! pre-orders sooner) We got to go and have the incredible photographer Ely Fair snap some adorable shots, and spend some fun times with some REALLY fantastic people. We had such a blast, I can't wait to see the finished product. You guys. The family and mission behind Love Well is something that I'm SO PROUD to say we've been able to be affiliated with, even if it's just in this small way. It was such a great experience. (Follow them on instagram @lovewellhandmade to be kept up to date with their spring line launch)

+I made a little garland. Just because I wanted to, and I had a ton of tissue paper.

+I was pretty darn successful with the Collective Creative challenge this time around. The challenge was to make art out of resources you have lying around your home. I made a mobile out of Fern's book, "The Secret Garden", and some paper flowers to accompany it. You can find it for sale in the shoppe.

+Oh, and.. I did it ya'll. I died my hair. It isn't purple pastel pretty, yet- but it's on it's way to being so. My hairdresser Jordyn *who you can find on my sidebar just there to the left) really did a great job in lightening my hair. It's a strawberry blondey color. It's quite pretty, but not where we wanted it. Rather than fry it off and stretch it too far, we decided to give it some time, and she's going to finish the job Tuesday! You'll be hearing more from me about that later this week. <3

+I totally came up with that design for a potential order the day I posted the list, and THEN I turned around and sold it not 5 minutes later. winner winner chicken dinner. I love getting good feedback. And I loved working on a custom order. I hope more of those come along. So fun.

This week's list looks a little like this:

- Finish 2 chapters
- Catch up on orders completely
- Plan a "staycation"
- Finish the last of the wedding "thank you's"
- Have lunch with a new friend -done
- REALLY dye my hair lavender -done
- Help baby sister figure out college choices -done
-Do something REALLY nice for husband- just because..and to make up for last week. -done

The Nectar Collective

Oh- P.S. you should REALLY sign up for the Etsy Swap!  These are so much fun, and you meet great ladies! You can head over to Meg's post here to learn more about it! I've already signed up. If it's anywhere near as fun as the Christmas Exchange was- you won't be sorry. :)

"where you tend a rose, my lad, a thistle cannot grow"

This time around for "The Creative Collective", the challenge was titled "anything goes art". The challenge was to collect items that you already owned in your home and make art out of them. I don't know if you remember this mobile from the shoppe, that was sold last year- but that was my favorite mobile, and for a while I've been wanting to do another one. I got together my supplies:

mobile

| 1 hardback book
| hot glue (not pictured)
| twine/thick string (not pictured)

paper flowers

| paper
| watercolor
| tissue paper
| floral tape

The mobile is so simple to make. Simply tear out all of the pages, and glue them "hot dog" style. Drill a hole through the spine of the book to put your twine through- this will serve to hang the mobile from the ceiling. Then start gluing the pages in a waterfall form, shaping it however you like. You can make it as long or short as you like. You don't have to use all of the pages.

I like to add a little extra to the books, so I thought it was only fitting to add paper flowers to "The Secret Garden". I found this really lovely DIY for paper flower making via Kelli Murray's blog

So fun. I always forget how lovely these turn out. I'd really like to go book hunting soon at some used book stores. I really love the way yellowing of the older books look.

You can find this book mobile for sale in the shoppe here. Get it for 40% off with the code "creativecollective" through the rest of February! |||This is a one of a kind mobile and will not be re-crafted ||

Fernversations 1.0

 February 2014 | 21 months

This little chump has grown quite an extensive vocabulary. THIS stage. This. is what I've been waiting for. I love her little voice and the things she says. The way she pronounces words, and I'm the only one who knows what in the world she's saying. I can't wait until she can form sentences and tell us her thoughts. <3 sweet little dumplin'. Here are some of her favorite words and their pronunciations.

Those are just some of the every day translations, but this girl- she's starting to repeat every little thing. It's so hilarious. She knows all of her body parts, she can count to three, and she's learning her colors. She knows orange, blue, black, purple, pink. She can tell you almost every animal and what they say (my favorite is the elephant).

She prefers salt to sweet, unless it's her fruit snacks. She'd eat pizza for every meal if I let her, and when it's time for bed she gets excited (usually). We give her her blanket and bunny that she sleeps with, and she's usually so excited because she knows it's bedtime, she'll give off this tired giggle that just melts me to puddles.

She loves books. We read "goodnight moon" and "the monster book" (<- not the official name ) several times a day. In close company is her "moby dick ocean primer" book and "you're my little cupcake".

She's very cautious, but courageous at the same time. She likes to keep close to me until she's very comfortable, but once she is she'll run off by herself and do whatever she wants. Loud noises, and animals she doesn't know make her very timid and cautious. She's still not a big fan of most men. Except her daddy, and she's warming up to my grandpa.. but he knows how to make the chicken train go- so.. he's got that on his side.

I can't believe how much she's growing.
I need to keep doing little updates like this here and there to track the progress. It's just amazing how much and how quickly they take things in at this age. I'm totally in awe.

I don't want her to grow up too fast though.

Stay little, Fernie... <3

Weekly Wishes || 4

Another week of goal setting. I am SET! Here's a re-cap of last week:

- Study 3 nights this week
- Plan meals for next week
- Bake cookies for Fern's Valentines Party -done
- Mentally prepare for a (surprise) new hair color -done
- Find my planner - done
-Find last minute Valentines for Fern's party - done
So, I ALMOST studied for 3 nights this week, but orders got in the way, so I had to finish and deliver a few of those locally. BUT- I also double timed one day and finished an entire chapter, which would have usually taken me the whole 3 days. So I'm not marking it off, but I got the work done plus some. I'm not mad. :)

I totally rocked Fern's Valentines Day Party with this cute (and easy) recipe for vanilla shortbread cookies by Sweet Lavender Bake Shoppe, and these amazingly cute (and free) Valentines Day cards from Smitten Blog Design. I mean.. I spent literally $0.00 for this party. Mom-win. (which is also great, because she chose to throw the most hideous fit 5 minutes into the party and we had to leave.)

Also, Saturday was the end of the hair poll. All the votes are in and I am currently preparing myself for my very new hair in the color of.... LAVENDER! I love that my husband was so excited to wait and be the very last vote.  Seriously, his computer screen was loading with a slow connection at 11:58 and the poll ended at noon. It was dramatic. and awesome. love him.

OH! and Tristan found my planner. It was under the bed. Last week I asked him if he'd seen it and he said "have you looked under the bed?". Which I took to mean.. "nope". Because how would he know if my planner was under the bed. So this week when I was a little more frazzled than usual and I asked him again- "hey.. you haven't seen my planer anywhere have you? I still can't find it" he said "Oh, it wasn't under the bed?".. I checked, and it was. So there's that. Thanks T.

Planning meals kind of went like this... it didn't. I've been working on a few custom orders for the shoppe this week, and let me tell you- meal planning just didn't make the cut yo. I really want to get in a schedule of doing this though- like.. Mondays are laundry day- so Mondays while the first load is washing and there's nothing to fold- make a list? This might make a list somewhere in the upcoming weeks, but I'm just not super passionate about it today. So it's not going to be attempted again this week.

this week, here's what's up.

- get rolling with this new book I've started
- make a garland -done
- make something for the Collective Creative challenge -done
- Get my hurr did. (I said it)
- Do something nice for my husband for no reason at all.
- Make 4 more Dreamcatchers for "the big order"
- Make new Dreamcatchers with leftover supplies
- Come up with a custom design for a potential order -done

a lot of "making" going on this week. Yowza. I love it!

February Sponsors & their crushes

Happy Valentines Day friends! I figure, I post enough mushy gushy stuff about my family throughout the rest of the year, that I didn't really need to today. BUT! I also thought, how fun would it be to hear from my sponsors today!

I asked these fun ladies: "who was your very first crush and who are your currently crushing on?" Here's what they had to say:

"My first crush I ever had was a boy named Cody, he went to my elementary school. When we played the "kissy game", (you know the one where the boy chases you and then once he catches you, he kisses you) I would pretend to trip so he could kiss me. HaHa! The crush I have right now is currently on Charlie Hunnam! He is exceptionally attractive and I love his interviews. That long hair, and the accent! O man!"

"My first legitimate crush was on this boy named Bradley who I did community theater with, but my current crush is on my boyfriend AJ, the man of my dreams!"

" I don't really like to get too caught up in Valentines day. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy getting cute things fixed up for my daughters daycare class because it's fun for her but sometimes I feel like it's way to commercial and a money holiday. My husband and I don't ever feel like we have to have a fancy dinner and all of the flowers and such. We usually end up on the couch cuddled up with popcorn and a movie. However, he usually ends up surprising me with something which is very sweet. :) my first crush was probably one of the members of NSYNC that goes by JT. How 90's of me. :)  but now I'm totally over the frosted hair and currently crushing on my hot husband. ;)"

"My first legitimate crush had to be on one of the New Kids on the Block: either Jonathan Knight or Joey McIntyre! Now I would say that although I absolutely LOVE my husband, I definitely crush on Brandon Flowers from the Killers! I think I have a thing for singers!

"My first legitimate crush was, hands down, Jonathan Taylor Thomas.  My dad always thought I was so eager to watch "Home Improvement" with him because I wanted to bond with him over hardware-y stuff but my mom knew the truth ;) I will forever be crushing on my hot husband but right now I'm also hardcore girl-crushing on Kelly Clark.  Homegirl can shred AND loves Jesus."

These ladies have some good taste, yeah? JTT?! come on. who didn't love those dimples. <3
I'm so honored to have these ladies on my sidebar this month. I hope you've enjoyed getting to know them a little better today! I know I have!

Confessions of a blogger:

I have to admit, that I saw this post when Christina posted it the other day, and she was tagged by Meg.. so I went to read Meg's too, because she's super cute and I like her a ton. It was then that I saw that Meg had tagged ME to do this as well! I can't believe I didn't catch that. Worst friend. Worst blogger. ever. me. But. Here I am, doing it now. Thank you Meg, for tagging me! I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. You're the best.

So, provided were the following questions, which I'm suppose to answer, and I'll tell you I'm a bit hesitant to even partake in this because I feel like I'm so not the person to be taking blogging "advice" or whatever from. But if nothing else, maybe we can get to know each other a little better from it. So hoorah. Here's to getting to know each other.
circa 2011
1. When did you first start blogging and why?
I GUESS, technically, I first started blogging in High School. It was a LiveJournal, and I didn't really know I was blogging at the time, I just kind of thought I was journaling and all my friends were journalling too, and we could read each others journals? Which is kind of what blogging was, but really- in the early 2000s I didn't have a clue what blogging was.

I started blogging on purpose in 2008. It was a blogspot address. I can't even remember what the name of the blog was (not this one obviously) but I did it because I had just moved back to the states from New Zealand, and my very best friend from NZ had just started blogging (Amanda from Here Comes the Sun blog), and she told me I should too. So I did. She wrote this post back in 2008 and it was about me, and sometimes I go back and re-read it, just because I miss this time in our lives. Special memories. Thank you blogging.

I first started this blog in April 2013.

2. Have you had any past online presence?
oh not significant "presence", but as I mentioned, I've done it all as far as "blogging" whether I knew it or not. I did Livejournal... several times: a couple were (andantefavori and badbeat_lulu_x) , xanga (Rusted Vintage), tumblr (birds for brains), and several blogspot blogs, such as "Shayla shut your eyes"(which later turned into "birds in her hair"), "Bird Brains"(which later turned into "Sweet Darlin'.") Sweet Darlin' was my blog before this one.

Before you go clicking on any of those links: I must warn you- I was SUUUUUUPER emo. like really.

3. When did you become serious about your blog?
Honestly, I'm still in the transitioning phase of "serious". I would, I suppose, consider myself serious- because I do receive income for blogging. So I have a bit of an obligation to it. So let's just say.. recently.

4. What was your first blog post?
The first blog post was really hard to start. So I just made it an introduction. A little tid-bit about who I was at the time, where I came from, where I was going.. You can read it here if you'd like. I wish I could find the first blog post I made EVER, but all of my previous blogs that I can track down are "friends only".  Now that'd be something to blog about.

5. What have been your biggest challenges blogging?
Just to keep going. Finding content. Remembering that I started doing this for me, and that I can go back to that any time I want. Sometimes finding time is a challenge.

6. What is the most rewarding thing about blogging?
I may be echoing Christina here, but she hit the nail on the head. It's the community. The girls I've met through blogging. Man, some of the most encouraging, sweet ladies I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I never imagined I'd make such connections when I started out. It's been the biggest blessing.

7. What is the most discouraging thing about blogging?
Sometimes you put a lot of yourself into a post and dont get much of a response from your readers. It's these times I have to go back and remind myself: I started blogging for me. For Fern. So who cares if nobody's really interested in what we did last week- Someday Fern might come back to this and really appreciate it. Also, just like pinterest does to me- comparing myself to other bloggers. I actually spend time thinking about in the future when we get a house of our own how I'll be able to take pictures of it and show you guys a house tour. Or how maybe when Fern gets older she'll cooperate better with the camera and I can show you all of her cute outfits. That's just silly. Blogging is all about sharing who you are where you are. That's important to remember.

8. What is your blogging dirty little secret?
You know how I have this thing for day planners? Well I have one dedicated to my blog. Which would make more sense if I was like... James or something.. but let's get real. Most of the time I just pount out these posts the day before. Still, I try to schedule my sponsor posts and giveaways, because I feel like I owe it to them to be thorough.

9. What is your current goal as a blogger?
Well, on my 30 before 30 list I have "hit 1000 followers". So I suppose that. I'd love for my blog to be a main source of income, but it's not something I'm actively pursuing at the moment. If it were to ever happen, I'd be just happy as a peach.

10. Have you learned or become passionate about anything through blogging that caught you by surprise?
Reading. I mean... I guess it started with that 30 before 30 list I mentioned- one of the things on there was "create a list of 30 books and read it".. I hadn't really read much of anything since High School, so it was a big deal to start that. I feel like the blog has kept me accountable to that and has given me this passion for reading that I've never had before. I'm really enjoying it.
circa 2011.. or 12
are we still friends? Are you embarrassed to be in the company of the former "badbeat lulu" or "shipwreck shayla"? eeeek! I AM!

please love me more for overcoming that stage of my life!

oh! I tag Tillie, Melissa, Amanda (Jaynes) and Kenzie! and you! If you do this survey, please comment and let me know! I'd love to read your take on blogging. <3

Weekly Wishes || 3.

I'm just going to brag a little bit but LOOK AT THESE GOALS!!! Seriously, ya'll.. if you're feeling like you need to get more done, I really encourage you to start making lists. and if that just doesn't do it, join this linkup. Just knowing that all these other cool cats who are linking up are cheering me on and holding me accountable to get my stuff together and accomplish really does make all the difference. To you ladies who have been commenting and doing the encouraging- you're really making the difference. I know these aren't like LIFE ALTERING lists, but you know what? being on top of your lists makes you feel accomplished, and that makes me feel happy and less stressed, and I KNOW my family feels that too. So thank you! This is what happened with last week's list:

-Finish my current chapter and rock the test (for real) -done BOOM!
-Send out finished orders & Giveaway CD -done
-Finish mobile order -done
-make 4/10 dreamcatchers -done
-send out thank you's to those who gave to our Hatch My House fund. - done!

first thing I did was knock out that chapter and test. and I totally Aced it. First time. thank you, thank you. I was hoping I could get a little ahead of my game and get through the next chapter as well.. You know, to impress you guys- but I didn't. and that's okay, because I think probably if I had, one of these other goals wouldn't have been met, and those were all very important to do this week.

The only thing more time consuming than sending out wedding invitations, is sending out the thank you's for your wedding. Do not get me wrong, I am not complaining. We have a BAZILLION going out,and that means we are a blessed x A BAZILLION. I am officially halfway through now that I've got everyone who donated to our Hatch My House fund. (an incredible way of registering for money if you're like us, and have everything you need already.. by the way) You can see this post if you're interested in learning more about that.

The last things I did were finish up my orders, and send them out with the winner of the NIght Night's album giveaway, and all that was accomplished by Saturday morning. done and done.

I even started a new book, last night. Dreamy.

Here are the wishes for this week:

- Study 3 nights this week (Finding time to study is really difficult when you're running a business, chasing a toddler, and your husband goes to school in the evenings as well.)
- Plan meals for next week
- bake cookies for Fern's Valentines Day party-done
- Mentally prepare for a new (surprise) hair color. see this post for more details on that, and to vote
- Try a new food
- Find my planner (did I mention I lost this? I am OUTSIDE MY MIND right now. I don't even know what month it is anymore. I can't function this way.) -done (THANK. GOODNESS)
- Find last minute Valentines Day cards for Fern's party. - done

Reminiscing over the past five years

 2009
So, I guess when you get married- you're technically suppose to stop "celebrating" your dating anniversary, but I do just want to acknowledge it. Because it's a big deal. Tristan and I just celebrated our fifth anniversary of the day he asked me to be his girlfriend yesterday. We didn't really DO anything to celebrate, but it's a sweet day to just talk to each other and reminisce about the last five years. My favorite part of dating anniversaries is asking Tristan to tell me the story of him asking me. Every year. I'll keep doing it forever and ever, because I want him to have it down PAT to tell to Fern when she's older. I like the parts he puts in about how we'd been hanging out for a long time before and were basically dating already, but he was still so nervous to ask me. I also like the part he puts in about asking me "officially" over text, and me turning him down, and telling him he needed to ask me in person. atta girl. pat my own back. ;) Reminiscing is so much fun. I was just listening to John Tesh the other day (who I get MOST of my life advice from) and he was just talking about how great reminiscing about the good times with your significant other helps you get over the hard times so much faster, and helps grow and strengthen your relationship. It's so true. Five years of great memories is such a wonderful thing to go back and remember together. Laughing at silly things that happened. It's like going back and re-living that great time together. I'm so excited for next year, and 10 years.. AND WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES!  anniversaries are so great.

The Creative Collective: Create a new playlist

I love the concept of the new link up I've joined, The Creative Collective. Every month there's a new challenge to get you to stretch your creativity, and that's something I very much need sometimes. (most times) On the date given, you link your post up with everyone elses, that way you can go and see what everyone else did for the challenge as well.
I know "make a new playlist" doesn't sound like it should stretch one's creativity very much- but this is something I've been craving, and wanting to do for ... years? Yeah. I'd go ahead and say years. I honestly listening to the same music I listened to in High School and the years just after. All good music, I mean... Everybody loves Sufjan,  Eisley, Copeland & Amos Lee classics... but I have no idea what new music is even out there. I have been in a rut for years, putting off this surge of creativity consistently. This very post has enabled me to sit down for the day, find a new band I like, and put it on that radio station. Saving every song I really liked, I made a new playlist. How bout that. It's perfect for when I'm working on orders. <3

Weekly Wishes || 2.

I totally rocked my list from last week FYI. I totally owe it to the weekly link up. I so kept wanting to take a nap, but I knew that I had to come back and not only report to you guys, but also link up to the ladies involved in this particular linkup, and I just couldn't slack. Here's what my list from last week looked like:

|| Finish my current chapter & rock the test
|| Have a coffee date with the girls of "the circle" -done
|| make 2 custom orders from the new "birth announcement" line in the shoppe done
|| take product photos -done
|| make time for a night out with an old friend -done
|| finish the book I've been reading for months. -done
Whiskey Cake

I actually went to Whiskey cake twice this week. Once to catch up with a good friend, and then the very next night to celebrate my best friend's birthday. I wasn't even mad about it, and yes.. I did have the whiskey cake both nights.

I also knocked that book out that I've been sluggishly reading for the past few months. It was "The Silence of Bonaventure" by Rita Leganski. It was a really endearing book. I really enjoyed it. It probably wouldn't make my top faves, but I'm glad I read it. It was a sweet story with southern charm of the bayou.

Oh, and those two orders I had to get done, I did three. Which I'm pretty proud of, because those paintings are pretty time consuming. I like the details.

I didn't finish my chapter. But I did make headway. It's a really long chapter, so I'm going easy on myself with the failure of that, but I'm totally knocking it out number one priority this week.

Speaking of which, this week my list looks like this:

-Finish my current chapter and rock the test (for real) -done BOOM!
-Send out finished orders & Giveaway CD -done

Pick my hair color.

A weekend post! whaaaaat? :)

This month I am so excited to introduce to you a good friend, and talented hair dresser Jordyn. Jordyn is a fantastic hairdresser. For you locals, she's recently set up shop at Scissortale Salon on Hudson, downtown. Jordyn and I have been talking these last couple of weeks about what we could do to show off her mad hair skills, and we came up with the perfect solution. MY HAIR. But we want it to be a bit interactive. SO. Jordyn is going to give me a cut and color at the end of the month, and you get to decide what color I go. I figure, this is the last time before I start my career as a realtor that I can really let go and just do whatever, so we're not holding back. I totally trust Jordyn to make me look fabulous, which is why I am totally in on this project!
Below are the hair color options, and under that you can actually take part in THE pole that decides the future of my hair. And.. it's totally anonymous, so if you pick a color that looks absolutely horrible next to the skin on my face, I won't know it was you, and therefore will not hunt you down and dye your hair a similarly incompatible hair color for your the skin on YOUR face. :) so, you're safe there.

I realize these color names are not the legit names, but I'm not the hairdresser here- so they're just a reference point.
