Sickies

My sincerest apologies for the lack of posting this past week, friends.
Fern and I have both been very ill the past few days. Fern was sick Tuesday , Wednesday, Thursday, and I was sick Thursday and Friday. It's just been such a yucky week.
Fern was in full spirits Friday, which I was so happy for, but also could NOT keep up with her. My sweet sister came to take her for a fun weekend with my family so that I could rest up and get all better. Before Fern left for the weekend, though, our sweet roomie so sneakily captured these sweet moments of the two of us sickies together.

Regular updating will continue this week. Stay posted, I have some treats up my sleeve, including an easy kiddie friendly recipe from my sweet friend, over at Sweet Lavender Bake Shoppe.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Stay well!

Fro-yo date

I gotta tell you, this momma is cheap. Usually our fro-yo dates consist of the two of us sitting on our front steps eating a pack of "tuberz" that I've put in the freezer overnight (which I highly recommend) Today was an extra special day because we just needed to get out of the house. We walked to lunch, and then right across the street for some fancy pants fro-yo at Orange Leaf. What a special treat. I just had to share these photos. This girl is just so entertaining. Do you like how she ended up with a spoon in each hand? Yep. She's mine.

Life Lately

One of my favorite things to do is cruise through my phone and look at all the photos I've taken recently. Half of them I don't even remember taking, and half you've probably seen if you follow me on Instagram. Regardless, they're such treasures to go back and look over, bringing back tiny little memories of a day recently past. I'm constantly reminded of how insanely blessed my life is.

About the photos:
1. Elemental Coffee Roasters | Fern is so generous when it comes to blowing kisses.
2. Frontline Church | Downtown
3. Melissa Green | Thankful for sweet room mates who love my daughter well.
4. Our Neighborhood | Morning walks to brunch
5. Backdoor BBQ | The sweetest man in town showing off OKC's newest BBQ place
6. Selfies | This girl can't help but cheese it up when she sees herself, and I can't help but laugh!

Share your favorite toddler recipes!

I have to confess something disgusting to you, and that is that ever since we moved into our new home, we haven't been to the grocery store. We've been eating out this entire time. Which is a.) way too expensive. and b.) most of the time way not very healthy. Yes. I've been pumping my 1 year old full of taco bell. I'm sorry I'm sorry!
The other day I finally got a chance to go to the grocery store. (Single car family problems) I got the necessities: bread, milk, juice, "chedder bunnies" (a necessity to Fern), eggs, and a few more goodies. When I got to thinking about lunch, I just .. couldn't think. What would be a nutritious lunch, that Fern will love, and won't take 10 minutes to cleanup plus bathtime afterwards? ie: pb&j is not cutting it. I got a few finger foods.. baby carrots, and such, but I'd really love to hear what you ladies feed your babes at this age. What are your toddler's favorite finger foods? Leave me some info in the comments section, or email me your faves! Maybe we'll try it out and show it off on the blog later!

Sweet Bee Bowtique

I'd like to take a moment to introduce one of my sponsors!
The Sweet Bee Bowtique will cure all your headband needs. I have so many favorites from her shop, it was really hard picking just a few to feature. Hands down, Star Wars had to be on the list. No contest. There's nothing that will make you more proud of your nerdy side, like seeing your tot sport her Star Wars headband, am I right?

My favorite feature of her little clips, is the no slip grip they have for very fine hair, which makes them stay in place without being too harsh and pulling hair. Fern has very curly, but very fine hair. Usually clips like that will just fly out or be dangling by two hairs in five minutes, but these actually stay in so well! Fern and Nora put them to the test at their playdate pictured below.
These girls played so hard, and the whole time those bows hung in there.
I was thoroughly impressed...
also.. just look how cute they are together. everybody 1. 2. 3. "aaaaaaawwwwe"
(not an awesome photo of the bows, but do you know how hard it is to get two 1 year olds in a photo together? harder than you think. They're just blurs, mostly)

Check out a few more of my favorites from the shop!
I love them. And mommas! She makes them in your size too! I'm actually sporting one of her headbands in the very first photo of my engagement shoot.

But wait, I saved the best part for last. These OHSOCUTE bows and clips will set you back a whoppin' $7.00 TOPS, and that's if we're gettin' real fancy with glitter elastic. So affordable. How can you NOT buy one of each kind?

I'm not too old for the Star Wars bow, right?

Every good and perfect gift is from above.

I have been a stress monster lately. This is no secret. I get frustrated easily, grumpy, annoyed at silly things. On top of that I've been neglecting my personal time with God, which always seems to contribute to the previously mentioned attitude. I haven't been "in the mood" to pray, or read. Somehow He has a way of getting through to you, even if you are neglecting Him. That's how I know he loves more than I can comprehend. He and my fiance are the only two that give me more grace than I deserve, and I know T's grace comes from the Lord.

I was actually just going through photos on my camera this morning and I ran across this one. I remember being in one of my bad moods when I took it. Fern was just captivated by those leaves hanging down and I wanted to get a shot of T lifting her up to touch them. I was annoyed because I didn't get the shot I had imagined in my head, and as one year olds do, she lost interest fairly quickly and T's arms were getting tired. I guess because I was so focused on the shot lost, I didn't even see this sweet genuine photo I did get. This morning as I found this photo I couldn't help but think of this verse. "Every good and perfect gift is from above" James 1:17 Sometimes I can't fathom how completely blessed I am because of how pig headed I can be. Such a grump sometimes, and a total control freak. Still, I have this beautiful family who loves me through it. I'm afraid I've been missing the beautiful moments that God organically provides while trying to stage happy days myself. My depth is so shallow sometimes. Forgive me for being the worst version of myself, Lord.

This photo will forever be a sweet reminder to me.

Starting the morning off right

I mentioned that we moved a few weeks ago, right? Ever since we moved this little plum has been waking up in the BEST moods in the morning. (not to say that she wasn't before, we just weren't in the room when she woke up) T & I share a room with her, which is quite a tight space, but every morning we wake up to giggling, and sometimes a sweet high pitched little "hiiiiiiii!" from the other side of the room. Seriously. How did we get so lucky? She starts the day off just right.
Also since living here, T's car has totally gone kaput. So we are always sharing a car, which means he has it during the day. Before we lived on the north side of town, which is a pretty inconvenient walk to anything, plus a ton of traffic. Not really somewhere you want to stroll your baby to lunch or errands. Now we are smack in the middle of things. Our neighborhood is so lovely to walk in, with a park very near and trees all down the streets so the shade hides that horrific Oklahoma summer sun. We've been walking to Cuppies nearly every day just to spend time with our sweet friends who work there. I adore this part of town. We're also very near church! hooray! One of the things on my 30 before 30 list is to be more involved in the community there. Hopefully soon we can check that one off!

Ad Space Available!

I've decided to go ahead and try out Sponsorships. Nothing too pricey, after all, we are just starting out. All of my free swap options have already been spoken for, I may open a couple more up for next month, but if you'd like to get on a the list for that, go ahead and sign up, I'll approve it after this 30 days. I'd love to do a swap with you! Let me know if you have any questions, I'd love to answer them.

August favorites

Etsy is the best isn't it? My favorite picks for August are as follows: Fern style. Cause baby's got style.

Registering for items with no place to store them.

A problem that has come up recently is registering for our wedding. One of the best parts, right? You get to go and pick out the dream KitchenAid mixer in the perfect color for your dream kitchen, the most perfect rug that you love, but would never spend that much money on yourself for the hallway, a bathroom curtain that matches the bathroom trashcan that matches the bathroom toothbrush holders!... I attempted this. I have to say, I'm GREAT at picking out my "dream items" for my "dream house".
Unfortunately, the two problems I came across, are:
a.) storage: We don't have an ACTUAL house to put any dream items in. Since we live with roomates (in the house above), and the three of us are in one room, most of our belongings are in storage as it is. If we got registry presents, they'd go right to storage. BUH- MER.

but we could still do that.. at least we'd have stuff for when we DID get our own place. Then there's...

b.) I can't pick out the perfect large fluffy bathroom towels, or right COLOR KitchenAid mixer when I don't know what color my kitchen or bathroom is! I can't register for that super cute poofy net-y footstool thingy if I don't know if I have enough room in my future living room to put it.. or If I'll even like it by that time. Do I have a microwave in storage? I can't remember.

It just seems like what we should be registering for is a house, rather than things to put IN our 'someday house'. One step at a time, right? But how do you tell everyone who is coming to your wedding .. "oh hey.. don't get us that blender you love getting people for their weddings, we just want cash." Can you do that? It's so impersonal, right? Have you met my dad? He'd rather go buy me an actual garage door to my new house than give me the money for it. You never know.. I might spend it on food, or drugs, or diapers, or THE WEDDING! (hi, dad. I know you're reading. love you!)

Well, friends and family. Thanks to my oh so smart future sister in law, who created a registry for her honeymoon & knows all about everything involving the interwebs, We have registered at Hatch my House. It's perfect. You should go take a look-see if you're in the same situation. It's a virtual house, and your friends and family can purchase that garage door or window or flower box under the window, for however much they'd like, and it goes straight into your bank account (through paypal) and you put it toward a downpayment for a house. So smart, right? Everybody wins. Dad gets to buy my roof, and I get to ask for money for a downpayment, without actually coming out and saying "give us your money". I love it. We'll also have a little honeymoon jar at the wedding for cash donations if people would rather donate directly to the honeymoon. (all of which will be mentioned in our invitations)

What do you think? Brilliant idea, or straying too far from tradition?

honored to be mentioned.

Let's take a little break from vacation photos for a tic, and talk about how special it is to be talked about on somebody else's blog. TWO lovely ladies have mentioned my shop to their sweet readers in the past couple of months, and I just wanted to say how special I feel to have caught their attention. I am over the moon. Pop on over to see what they had to say about me.

Melissa from Fawn over Baby mentioned my dreamcatchers in her DIY post of how to make your own, and Christina at Sweet Lavender Bake Shoppe included my cloud mobile in a post about a few things she's loving right now.

You'll want to head over to their blogs whether you're interested in what they have to say about me, or not. Fawn Over Baby is full to the brim of posts that'll give you baby fever. From newborn sessions, to nursery features and more... If you're a momma especially, you have to visit.
I can't get enough of the genius recipes that are on Sweet Lavender Bake Shoppe. Sweet Corn ice cream, are you kidding me? stop it.  not to mention, how beautiful, inspiring, and so uplifting both of these ladies are in the blog community.

I'm a huge fan of them both.
